Is there someone in her who has upgraded his Macbook Pro?

I have a friend who has MacBook Pro (17-inch, Late 2011)..

Its getting a litle slow, so he wants to upgrade.

He is thinking about buying som more ram, I have googled a litle bit and it seems like it could support 2x8gb memory. Do anyone have any recomandation about what brand to buy?

He is also thinking about getting an ssd hardrive for the macbook, any recomandations her?

Hi Lars, I am not a Mac user so I don't know much about them, wait for a few days and see if any members can offer the information you need.

if you need more info on the mac pro, just type in the serial number of the machine at this link

http://www.appleserialnumberinfo.com/Desktop/index.php

it will give you the detail spec of the type of memory in the machine and the max and spare capacity for it,

another good link is the following as it will guide you thru the best selection for the up grades.

http://macs.about.com/od/macupgrades/tp/2009-2012-Mac-Pro-Upgrade-Guide.htm

as far as where to purchase I've used http://www.macsales.com/
in the past and they delivered on time and had great pricing.

hope this helps.

cheers,

Got one of these earlier in the year and it hasn't disappointed:

SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

As Marc says, be very specific about RAM for your machine, it can be tricky. But any good SSD should work.

I upgraded my macbook Pro (late 2011) to 16 GB Ram

Kingston is working good, Samsung the best

its fun

the DVD drive can be exchanged and an additional ssd can be installed.
but i have no personal experience in that, for me the machine is fast enough :-)

Lars I might be wrong in what I'm about to say but looks like neither you nor your friend are Mac/computer savvy. If that is the case then I'd suggest finding a computer tech to help you guys out.

Although you may go to the Apple store they will charge ALOT.

I am using a Mid 2010 15" Macbook Pro. Memory upgrade is the cheapest way to speed up a computer, it wont be blazing faster just a little faster but worth it.

Keep in mind if you have an extended warrantyyou might want to check if adding a SSD wont void it.
