This picture was taken in 2020. I am normally is not a studio photographer, but I was trying my hands in doing something that I was not used to.

Taken with a Nikon d800 at 135mm ,1/200and f8, and edited in Lightroom.

I like the the single eye that is visible, but I am not sure whether it works or not. How is the composition ? with the model center of the pic, and was not placed on 1/3 .

Is the conversion too dark , or should push the exposure even longer to get a even higher key look.

Your comment would be most helpful.

Thx

Hello, Tse

Welcome to our Forum. I first looked at your portfolio, but could not find any information. So I suppose that you are new on 1x. I do not know and think about yours photography background I suppose you have not much portrait History. I might be wrong too. However, the image I'm looking at Has some problems that might most probably hinder this image to be published. Here photographers want to show their skills in photography to passed through a tough curation to be published and even awarded. Anyway, you can read through these in the FQ part.
I am Also interested in portrait photography. To be better than where I have started in this genre I study and read a lot. I also search for good for portrait, photography and analyze them. First of all this hike image so close to the background with and nearly identical outfit in color made the texture of clothes. Your model is wearing disappear. We love to see texture in clothes that are part of the subject, and we don't like texture to be lost it is artistically better choice for the success of the image. Then what I would say something on it's about the rotation of your image. When you look at aspect ratio of the frame and the geometrical outline of your subject you can see that they both are like a horizontal rectangle. Other photographers might not agree, but I think two identical geometrical shapes presented in layers like those in your image, look not very interesting. There is too much unnecessary space in both layers that do not grab my attention. So I would take the advantage to crop your image for a new composition. Here is where my critic is about end. I will show you the two possible frames I have quote for you. Then please take the time and compare both with your image. You'll see two portraits that will most probably affect you much more than the original one. If you understand my point of view, then please start working on some composition rules about portrait photography. You can find lots of tutorials on YouTube. If you are still in the dark or if you refuse to accept my crops, please ask me your questions again on this page. None of the words I said for intended to hurt your photographical skills. They were to help you... I wish you good light. CICEK.
